Siemensstadt, den 13. Mai 1939. 

Liebe Miss Layton,

Ihren Brief vom 11. Habe ich bekommen, und möchte Ihnen bei dieser Geiegenheit auch herzlich für Ihre letzte Karte (wo wir alle so nett getroffen sind) danken. 

Den Brief, von dem Sie auf der Karte sprechen, habe ich allerdings nicht bekommen. Aber das Geld von Ihrer Frau Mutter war seinerzeit pünktlich eingetroffen. Verzeihen Sie, dass ich Ihnen hierüber nicht schon eher schrieb!

Ich habe soeben mit dem Museum telephoniert, wo es ja Nachbildungen der Nofretete-Büsten zu kaufen gibt. Diese sind dort 58 cm hoch (wie das Original) und kosten nicht weniger als RM 60.- in der billigeren und RM. 112.- in der teureren Ausführung. Dann habe ich bei einer Kunst-handlung angefragt, wo man die Büsten auch kleiner bekommt; die Preise sind da wie folgt:-

Höhe ca. 30 cm, mit Marmorsockel    RM 25.--

Dieselbe, holzgetönt                           “ 27.--

Höhe ca. 22 cm                                  “ 16.--

Eine noch kleinere Ausführung          “ 10.--

Die Maske der “Unbekannten” kostet in derselben Kunst- handlung in Originalgrösse RM. 10.-- (weiss) und RM. 12.- (getönt). Dann gibt es noch eine kleinere Grösse zu RM. 8.-.

Das Buch von Muschler kostet ungef¨shr RM. 2.--.

So, ist das nicht prompte Bedienung?

Mit Mr. Hutchings habe ich auch eben telefoniert. Er sagte, er wäre sogar bereit, die Sachen selbst mitzu-nehmen. Wollen Sie das? Wie ist die Sache mit dem Zoll? Soll ich dann die Rechnungen direkt an Sie schicken oder der Sendung beifügen?

Dear Miss Layton,

I received your letter of the 11th, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your last card (where we all met so nicely).

However, I did not receive the letter you are talking about on the card. But the money from your wife's mother had arrived on time. Forgive me for not writing you about this before!

I just telephoned the museum, where you can buy replicas of the busts of Nefertiti. These are 58 cm high (like the original) and cost no less than RM 60 in the cheaper and RM. 112.- in the more expensive version. Then I asked about an art store where you can get the busts smaller; the prices are as follows: -

Height approx. 30 cm, with a marble base RM 25 .--

The same, tinted wood “27 .--

Height approx. 22 cm “16 .--

An even smaller version “10 .--

The mask of the “unknown” costs RM in the same art store in its original size. 10 .-- (white) and RM. 12.- (tinted). Then there is a smaller size to RM. 8th.-.

Muschler's book costs about RM. 2nd.

So, isn't that prompt service?

I just called Mr. Hutchings. He said he was even ready to take things with him. Do you want that? What about customs? Should I then send the invoices directly to you or attach them to the shipment?
