Meine liebe Vally:

Das ist ja fein, dass Sie nun wirklich nach Stockholm kommen wollen. Mein Urlaub ist nun für die Zeit vom 23. August - 18.September festgelegt worden. Also bin ich in der Stadt. Da Sie mit einer Reisegesellschaft herkommen, sind Sie ja wohl die ganze Zeit über beschäftigt, sonst hätte ich es versucht, einen Tag mal frei zu machen, um mich Ihnen als Bärenführer zu widmen, wie ich es im vorigen Jahre mit den Schotten tat. Aber abends nach Büroschluss können wir uns doch wohl mal sprechen, vielleicht kommen Sie sogar mal mit zu mir herauf zu einem Tässchen Kaffee ?

Reisegesellschaften sind ja nun gerade nicht mein Fall. Aber fährt man in ein Land, dessen Sprache man nicht beherrscht, be-kommt man womöglich mehr dabei heraus, als wenn man allein herum-strolcht. Sonst ist aber gerade der neue Platz, das neue Land, einer der Hauptreize an so einer Reise - meinem Empfinden nach. Allerdings sind die Abende netter in Gesellschaft. Auch wenn ich an einen Platz zurückkehre, finde ich gern Gesellschaft [v]or. Was reden Sie da von alt sein und keine Unternehmungslust haben: Sie Kücken:

Wie ist Ihre Pariser Reise zu Pfingsten ausgefallen? War das Wetter schön ? Wir hatten am 2. Feiertag Regen. Und ich ge-noss die Ruhe sehr bei der anstrengenden Arbeit um diese Jahreszeit. In der Automobilbranche ist immer Hochsaison im Frühjarh, und die Hochkonjunktur verdoppelt die Arbeit noch dazu. Aber, wie wollte man ohne Arbeit leben: Ich bin ja so froh, dass ich arbeiten kann und dar[f]. Nur vergeht einem die Lust manchmal, wenn man zu abgespannt ist. Es bleibt zu wenig Zeit für das Heim übrig.

Wie hat man die Krönung in London überstanden. Hier hat man einen Teil im Rundfunk gehört. Da die meisten Menschen vormittags in der Arbeit sind, gab man nachmittags eine Schallplattenaufnahme. So konnten wir König Georg den Eid ablegen hören. Gab es keine neuen Briefmarken anlässlich dieser Feier?

Für Ihre Photos danke ich Ihnen sehr. Sie haben’s gut und tun recht daran, die Jugend zu geniessen. Ich lege Ihnen auf Wunsch eins von mir mit ein. Im Hintergrund sieht man Skansen in Stockholm. Die Aufnahme wurde im vorigen Sommer vom Katharinafahrstuhl aus ge-nommen. Ein Restaurant dort oben mit schöner Rundsicht.

Gibbs Buch England speaks habe ich im Winter gelesen und fand es interessant. Auch cities of refuge las ich [v]origen Herbst. Jetzt ist es übersetzt worden ins Schwedische.

Wir hatten schon herrliche Sommertage - was ja für unsere Breitengrade ziemlich ungewöhnlich ist in dieser Jahreszeit. Augen-blicklich blühen Tulpen, Elieder, Maiglöckchen um die Wett[e]. Es ist herrlich sonntags auf dem Lande herumzustrolchen mit dem Rucksack auf dem Rücken und im Grase zu liegen und zu faulenzen.

My dear Vally:

It's nice that you really want to come to Stockholm. My vacation has now been set for the period from August 23 to September 18. So I'm in town. Since you come here with a travel company, you are probably busy all the time, otherwise I would have tried to take a day off to devote myself to you as a bear guide, as I did with the Scots in the previous year. But in the evening after office hours we can talk to each other, maybe you will even come up to me for a cup of coffee?

Travel agencies are not my cup of tea right now. But if you go to a country where you don't speak the language, you might get more out of it than if you were to wander alone. Otherwise, the new place, the new country, is one of the main attractions of such a trip - in my opinion. However, the evenings are nicer in company. Even when I return to a place, I like to find company. What are you talking about being old and not adventurous: you chicks:

What was your trip to Paris like at Pentecost? Was the weather nice? We had rain on the 2nd holiday. And I really enjoyed the rest of the hard work at this time of year. In the automotive industry, it is always high season in spring, and that

the boom also doubles the work. But how did you want to live without work: I'm so glad that I can work and dark. Only when you are too tired does the desire sometimes go away. There is not enough time left for the home.

How did you survive the coronation in London. Here you heard part of it on the radio. Since most people are at work in the morning, a record was made in the afternoon. So we could hear King George take the oath. Were there no new stamps for this celebration?

Thank you very much for your photos. They’re good and right to enjoy the youth. I can include one of mine if you wish. In the background you can see Skansen in Stockholm. The picture was taken last summer from the Catherine elevator. A restaurant up there with a beautiful panoramic view.

I read Gibbs book, England Speaks, in winter and found it interesting. I also read cities of refuge last autumn. Now it has been translated into Swedish.

We already had wonderful summer days - which is quite unusual for our latitude at this time of year. Tulips, Elieder and lily of the valley are blooming around the Wetto. It is wonderful to troll around in the country on Sundays with your backpack on your back and lying in the grass and lounging.
